Common Sense Media is seeking a talented, experienced Front-end Engineer to join a team of 5 senior Drupal developers, a QA engineer, as well as product managers, Creative Director and design staff to work on a rapidly expanding set of Drupal websites.

This is a once in a life-time opportunity to work on one of the nation’s major consumer sites that reaches over 70 million homes and tens of thousands of schools. Our organization has distribution through Google, Yahoo!, Netflix, Comcast, DirecTV, Time Warner, and many others.

WHAT YOU WILL BE DOING

Working on high-traffic websites that get millions of users/month:

  • Common Sense Media (www.commonsensemedia.org) with reviews, advice, and more for parents
  • Digital Passport (www.digitalpassport.org) - a teaching toolkit for students and teachers
  • Graphite (www.graphite.org) - funded by one of the biggest players in the education space, it's like our main site but for teachers and was launched in beta June 22nd  

Improving the main site and a major new ed tech offering (Graphite.org) and other projects through responsive design, mobile integration, new APIs and other cutting-edge features

Building out a personalized and social experience to help connect users with each other and the rest of the world

Making sure that accessibility-limited and other underserved users get a rich experience

We're currently upgrading our site from Drupal 6 to 7 and are already looking forward to Drupal 8. You'll be issued a Mac laptop for local development, use git for version control, work in a LAMP stack on our dev/staging/prod servers hosted at Acquia. We code to Drupal standards, and strive towards other best practices like progressive enhancement. Our engineers take pride and ownership in our projects, working closely with Product and the other stakeholders to make sure that we build something that not only meets everyone's needs but is rock solid and easily maintained. While knowing Drupal is a huge plus and will make it easier for you to transition in, we're definitely open to anyone who shows a passion and proven history of picking up new technologies.

WHAT WE WOULD LIKE TO SEE ON YOUR RESUME

Demonstrated proficiency writing standards-based HTML 5, CSS/Sass

Proficiency with Javascript in a cross browser environment (3 or more years experience)

Understanding of current front-end and mobile development best practices, including responsive design, touch interfaces, progressive enhancement.

Experience working with source control like git or svn

Experience working in an agile environment

Experience building with responsive design

Proven consumer internet experience working in a LAMP stack with SQL skills

Experience in developing in Drupal 6/7 with custom modules and themes for Drupal

Experience with Solr

Experience with a TDD (test driven development)

Drupal.org username and code samples
