Bake accessibility into your project — Video Available

Making sure your site is accessible is the right thing to do by your users, but it’s difficult to do when you have anything over a handful of people creating content. Even if your theme was developed in adherence to the latest guidelines and best practices, all it takes is one author saving a page using asterisks as a replacement for bulleted lists to make your site frustrating for users with assistive technologies and inconsistent for everyone.

The new Accessibility project includes tools to bake accessibility into the content creation process, including WYSIWYG integration and useful author feedback. It also has tools for theme developers and automated testing and reporting. In this session, you’ll get all the ingredients to:

  • Make accessibility part of the editing environment for your content creators.
  • Run reports to focus on the most important content problems on your site.
  • Build accessibility checking into your development process through on-screen feedback and automated browser testing.
  • Integrate accessibility with your next development project, including writing your own tests.

The video for this session is available on archive.org. There may be sound dropouts in the video — it's not your computer.
